CANADA INTERNATIONAL MERCHANDISE TRADE, SEPTEMBER 2018

In September 2018, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) deficit narrowed to $416 million. The surplus reported in August has since been revised to a deficit due to a large upward revision to imports. The revision was mainly due to the import of three high value ships reported after the August publication. Exports are down 0.2% to $50.4 billon over Aug 2018, and are up 15.7% over Sep 2017. Imports are down 0.4% to $50.8 billon over Aug 2018, and are up 8.5% over Sep 2017.

In September 2018, the Canadian merchandise trade (balance of payment basis, seasonally adjusted) surplus with the United States narrowed to $4.8 billion.

Year-to-date

In the period Jan-Sep 2018, the year-to-date Canadian merchandise trade deficit reached $14.6 billon. Year-to-date goods Exports were valued at $440.1 billon and year-to-date goods Imports were valued at $454.7 billon .
