US CURRENT ACCOUNT Q3 2018

The US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that in Q3 2018, the current account deficit widened by $23.6 billion to $124.8 billion, compared to the revised Q2 2018 deficit of $101.2 billion.

Compared to the previous quarter,

  • the goods trade deficit widened by $24.0 billion to $227.0 billion
  • the services trade surplus narrowed by $0.1 billion to $68.4 billion
  • the primary income surplus narrowed by $2.9 billion to $59.4 billion
  • the secondary income account deficit narrowed by $3.4 billion to $25.6 billion

The current account deficit was 2.4 per cent of current-dollar gross domestic product (GDP) compared to 2.0 per cent in Q2 2018.
