US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2019

The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers was unchanged in January (seasonally adjusted growth from December). This month, the energy index declined for the third consecutive month, offsetting increases in the indexes for all items less food and energy and for food.       

Year over year (January 2019 compared to January 2018) consumer prices were up 1.6 per cent (not seasonally adjusted), with the shelter costs up 3.2 per cent, food prices up 1.6 per cent, and energy prices down 4.8 per cent. The all items less food and energy index rose 2.2 per cent, year over year.
