UK UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, NOVEMBER 2018 TO JANUARY 2019

The UK Office for National Statistics reported today that the unemployment rate for the three-month period November to January 2019 was 3.9 per cent, down slightly from the previous three month period.  This is down from the rate of 4.3 per cent reported for the same months a year ago. The UK unemployment rate has not been lower since November 1974 to January 1975.

There were 1.34 million unemployed people, 112,000 fewer than for a year earlier and the fewest unemployed people since 1975.

Employment was at 32.71 million, 473,000 more compared with a year earlier.
