JAPAN CPI INFLATION, MARCH

Japan's CPI inflation (all items, year-over-year) accelerated to 0.5 per cent in March 2019. Energy price growth was up slightly to 5.2 per cent while food prices deflation slowed to just 0.3 per cent. Underlying inflation edged up again to 0.5 per cent in March (all items excluding fresh food and energy).

Inflation has been slowed in many advanced economies as oil prices abated.  Year-over-year price growth has slowed for Canada, Nova Scotia and Japan in recent months, but there have been signs of faster inflation in March results.  Japan's inflation remains slower than price growth in most advanced economies.
