US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, MARCH 2019

In March 2019, US construction spending decreased 0.9 per cent to $1,282 billion. This follows a revised gain of 0.7 per cent reported in Feb 2019, when construction spending totaled $1,293 billion. Year-over-year, US construction spending is 0.8 per cent below March 2018.

  • Private sector construction decreased 0.7 per cent in March to $962 billion.  This is down 3.6 per cent over March 2018.
  • Public sector construction decreased 1.3 per cent in March to $321 billion.  This is up 8.6 per cent over March 2018
  • Residential construction decreased 1.8 per cent in March to $507 billion.  This is down 8.4 per cent over March 2018. 
  • Non-residential construction decreased 0.3 per cent in March to $775 billion.  This is up 4.8 per cent over March 2018.

In the first quarter of 2019, US construction spending is down 0.4 per cent over Jan-Mar18.

  • Private sector construction decreased 3.2 per cent
  • Public sector construction increased 9.4 per cent
  • Residential construction declined by 7.6 per cent
  • Non-residential construction grew by 5.1 per cent
