Japan's CPI inflation (all items, year-over-year) accelerated again to 0.9 per cent in April 2019. Energy price growth was slowed to 4.7 per cent while food price inflation turned positive to 0.7 per cent per cent. Japan's underlying inflation edged up again to 0.6 per cent in April (all items excluding fresh food and energy).
Inflation has been slowed in many advanced economies as oil prices abated. Year-over-year price growth has slowed for Canada, Nova Scotia and Japan since last summer, but there have been signs of faster inflation in the most recent two months. Japan's inflation remains slower than price growth in most advanced economies.
