July 02, 2019EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, MAY 2019 
Eurostat has reported that the unemployment rate in the Euro Area fell to 7.5 per cent in May , down 0.1 per cent from last month and from 8.3 per cent in May 2018. For the Euro Area, this is the lowest unemployment rate since July 2008.
For the broader European Union, the unemployment fell to 6.3 per cent this month, down 0.1 per cent from April and from 6.9 per cent a year ago. This unemployment rate for the European Union remains at its lowest level since the monthly data series began in 2000.
Among major European economies, the unemployment rate was highest in Greece (18.1 per cent in March), Spain (13.6 per cent), and Italy (9.9 per cent). Unemployment rates were lowest in Czechia (Czech Republic, 2.2 per cent), Germany (3.1 per cent), the Netherlands (3.3 per cent) and Hungary (3.4 per cent in April).
