August 13, 2019US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JULY 2019 The US Consumer Price Index (all urban consumers, seasonally adjusted) was up 0.3 per cent from June to July, generating year-over-year inflation of 1.8 per cent. On a year-over-year basis, US inflation has slowed over the last three months as energy prices soften.
Volatile energy prices account for much of the variation in US inflation. In July, year-over-year energy prices declined 2.0 per cent. Over the same time period, inflation for all items outside food and energy was 2.2 per cent and food price inflation was 1.8 per cent.
US inflation (year-over-year) was similar to price growth observed in Canada and Nova Scotia throughout much of 2018.
