Month-over-month
In Nova Scotia July 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments increased 5.4% to $801.0 million over June 2019 and increased 4.7% over July 2018.
Nova Scotia manufacturing shipments have been on an upward trend since the beginning of 2014 with rising durable (i.e. wood products, metal products, machinery, transportation equipment) and rising non-durable (i.e. food, paper/pulp, chemical, plastic and rubber) shipments. Seasonally adjusted non-durable shipments have risen from $405.4 million in January 2014 to $547.2 million in July 2019. Durable shipments have increased from $170.1 million in January 2014 to $253.8 million in July 2019.
Year-to-date
In Nova Scotia Jan-Jul 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments increased 4.4% ($228.1 million) to $5.4 billion over Jan-Jul 2018. Non-durable goods industries, accounting for 69% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 3.5% ($126.8 million) to $3.7 billion. Durable goods industries, accounting for 31% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 6.4% ($101.3 million) to $1.7 billion.
CANADA
In Canada July 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments decreased 1.3% to $57.1 billion over June 2019 and decreased 1.9% over July 2018.
Compared to July 2019, overall sales decreased in 11 of 21 industries representing 66.8% of all manufacturing sectors. Durable goods decreased 2.9% to $30.1 billion over Jun 2019 and decreased 1.1% over July 2018. Non-durable goods increased 0.6% to $27.1 billion over Jun 2019 and decreased 2.7% over July 2018.
Inventory to sales ratio rose to 1.54 in July. Unfilled orders declined 1.4% to $98.1 billion. Unfilled orders were down in transportation equipment. and fabricated metal product industries. Declines were partially offset by increases in chemical industry and computer and electronic product industries. New orders declined 1.6% to $55.8 billion over June 2019
PROVINCES
On a seasonally adjusted, month-over-month basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 5 provinces in July 2019 over June 2019. Nova Scotia had the largest growth at 5.4%. Prince Edward Island shipment growth decreased 10.3%. In Canada shipments decreased 1.3%.
On a seasonally adjusted year-over-year basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 3 provinces. Prince Edward Island had the largest growth at 32.2%. New Brunswick shipment growth decreased 17.5%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 4.7%. In Canada shipments decreased 1.9%.
On a seasonally adjusted, year-to-date basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 7 provinces in Jan-Jul 2019. Prince Edward Island had the largest growth at 22.7%. New Brunswick shipment growth decreased 14.7%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 4.4%. In Canada shipments increased 1.4%.

NOVA SCOTIA SECTORS
Seasonally adjusted, non-durable shipments have risen from $405.4 million in January 2014 to $547.2 million in July 2019. Durable shipments have increased from $170.1 million in January 2014 to $253.8 million in July 2019.
Unadjusted year-to-date (Jan-Jul 2019), Manufacturing Shipments increased 4.4% ($225.8 million) over the same period last year.
- Non-durable goods shipments, accounting for 69% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 3.5% ($123.4 million),
- Food manufacturing with a 28% share increased 1.3% ($19.9 million).
- Paper manufacturing accounting for 8% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 1.0% ($4.2 million).
- Plastics & rubber products with a 23% share increased 6.7% ($78.4 million).
- Other non-durables with a 9% share increased 4.5% ($20.8 million).
- Durable goods industries with a 31% share increased 6.6% ($102.4 million).
- Wood product manufacturing with a 4% share decreased 17.1% ($47.7 million).
- Fabricated metal Produsts with a 4% share increased 10.9% ($19.3 million).
- Machinery manufacturing with a 3% share increased 29.0% ($34.6 million).
- Other durables with a 20% share increased 9.8% ($96.2 million).
CENSUS METROPOLITAN AREAS (CMA) SECTORS
HALIFAX CMA
In Halifax, unadjusted non-durable shipments have risen from $52.2 million in January 2014 to $95.0 million in July 2019. Durable shipments have increased from $74.5 million in January 2014 to $134.7 million in July 2019.
THE REST OF NOVA SCOTIA
Unadjusted non-durable shipments have risen from $303.1 million in January 2014 to $493.5 million in July 2019. Durable shipments have increased from $74.3 million in January 2014 to $126.4 million in July 2019.
STATISTICS CANADA QUOTES
