US TRADE BALANCE, AUGUST 2019

In August 2019, US Goods and Services trade deficit widened by $0.9 billion to $54.9 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $0.8 billion to $74.4 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $24 million to $19.5 billion.

Monthly exports increased by $454 million to $207.9 billion. Goods exports increased by $359 million to $138.6 billion, and services exports increased by $95 million to $69.3 billion.

US imports were up $1.3 billion to $262.8 billion, reflecting a $1.2 billion increase to $213.0 billion in goods imports and a $119 million increase to $49.8 billion in services imports.

On a year-to-date basis, the US trade deficit widened by $28.3 billion to $428.7 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $10.3 billion to $588.1 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $18.0 billion to $159.3 billion.
