LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - SEPTEMBER 2019

In Nova Scotia September 2019, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.1 per cent (500) from August 2019 to 503,000 and increased 1.7 per cent (8,300) over September 2018
  • Employment increased 0.7 per cent (3,200) from August 2019 to 466,900 and increased 2.2 per cent (10,000) over September 2018
  • Unemployment decreased 9.3 per cent (3,700) from August 2019 to 36,100 and decreased 4.5 per cent (1,700) over September 2018
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.7 percentage points from August 2019 to 7.2 per cent.

In Canada September 2019, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force remains virtually unchanged (6,800) from August 2019 at 20,278,400 and increased 2.1 per cent (408,000) over September 2018
  • Employment increased 0.3 per cent (53,700) from August 2019 to 19,165,200 and increased 2.4 per cent (455,900) over September 2018
  • Unemployment decreased 4.0 per cent (46,900) from August 2019 to 1,113,200 and decreased 4.1 per cent (47,900) over September 2018
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points from August 2019 to 5.5 per cent.

 In Halifax September 2019, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force decreased 0.5 per cent (1,400) from August 2019 to 257,400 and increased 2.4 per cent (6,100) over September 2018
  • Employment decreased 0.7 per cent (1,600) from August 2019 to 242,800 and increased 3.5 per cent (8,100) over September 2018
  • Unemployment increased 1.4 per cent (200) from August 2019 to 14,600 and decreased 12.0 per cent (2,000) over September 2018
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points from August 2019 to 5.7 per cent

 

 Statistics Canada Quotes

"In September, employment increased in Ontario and Nova Scotia, while it held steady in the other provinces."

"In Nova Scotia, employment rose by 3,200, all in full-time work, and the unemployment rate declined 0.7 percentage points to 7.2%. Compared with 12 months earlier, employment in the province grew by 10,000 (+2.2%)."
