US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, NOVEMBER 2019

The US Consumer Price Index (all urban consumers, seasonally adjusted) rose 0.3 per cent in November. Year-over-year, consumer prices (unadjusted) rose 2.1 per cent. On a year-over-year basis, US inflation has been slower in 2019 due to the softening of energy prices.

Volatile energy prices account for much of the variation in US inflation. In November, year-over-year energy prices declined 0.6 per cent. Over the same time period, inflation for all items outside food and energy was 2.3 per cent and food price inflation was 2.0 per cent.

US inflation (year-over-year) was similar to price growth observed in Canada and Nova Scotia throughout 2018 and much of 2019.
