In Jan-Nov 2019, Nova Scotia International Merchandise Trade Exports increased 6.4 per cent ($335.3 million) over Jan-Nov 2018, to $5.6 billion.

Comparing Nova Scotia's exports for Jan-Nov 2019 with the same period last year the largest dollar value increases were in Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food ($198.5 million), Consumer Goods ($108.6 million), Motor vehicles/Parts ($88.6 million). The largest dollar value decreases were in Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials ($102.3 million), Metal/Mineral Products ($38.5 million), and Energy ($29.6 million).
On a year-to-date basis, export values increased for
- Machinery/Equipment by 50.8% ($61.0 million)
- Metal/Ores by 37.3% ($23.8 million)
- Transportation Equipment by 30.9% ($15.2 million)
- Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food by 20.4% ($198.5 million)
- Electronics by 11.7% ($17.4 million)
- Consumer Goods by 8.2% ($108.6 million)
- Motor vehicles/Parts by 7.5% ($88.6 million)
- Special Transactions by 5.5% ($2.7 million)
and export values decreased for
- Chemical, plastic, rubber by 3.4% (-$10.1 million)
- Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials by 13.2% (-$102.3 million)
- Metal/Mineral Products by 18.3% (-$38.5 million)
- Energy by 60.7% (-$29.6 million)

In Jan-Nov 2019, Prince Edward Island reported the highest increase (10.8%), while British Columbia reported the highest decline (-6.7%) in merchandise trade exports over Jan-Nov 2018. Nova Scotia reported a 6.4 per cent gain in merchandise trade exports. Canada reported a 0.7 per cent gain in merchandise trade exports over Jan-Nov 2018.
Excluding energy exports, Newfoundland and Labrador reported the highest increase (21.8%) while British Columbia reported the largest decline (-9.1%) in Non-energy exports for Jan-Nov 2019 compared to Jan-Nov 2018. Nova Scotia reported a 7.0 per cent gain in Non-energy exports. Canada reported a 1.3 per cent gain in Non-energy exports over Jan-Nov 2018.

Nova Scotia’s exports continue grow and diversify, and export shipment data allows for a breakdown of how exports are growing to different destination for the major commodity groups.
In Nova Scotia Jan-Nov 2019, international export trade to all countries increased 6.4% to $5,569.4 million over Jan-Nov 2018.
- Consumer Goods is the largest with a value of $1,428.6 million (26 % share), followed by
- Motor vehicles/Parts with a value of $1,263.1 million (23 % share),
- Farm, Fishing & Inter. Food with a value of $1,173.4 million (21 % share),
- Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials with a value of $675.5 million (12 % share),
- Chemical, plastic, rubber with a value of $286.3 million (5 % share),
- Machinery/Equipment with a value of $181.1 million (3 % share),
- Metal/Mineral Products with a value of $171.6 million (3 % share),
- Electronics with a value of $165.9 million (3 % share),
- Metal/Ores with a value of $87.6 million (2 % share),
- Transportation Equipment with a value of $64.1 million (1 % share),
- Special Transactions with a value of $52.9 million (1 % share),
- Energy with a value of $19.2 million (0 % share).
In the period Jan-Nov 2018 vs Jan-Nov 2019, year-to-date export trade to the United States increased 5.3 per cent ($173.2 million) to $3,471.5 million. The United States share of total Nova Scotia exports was 62.3 per cent.
Year-to-date export trade to China increased 25.7 per cent ($187.3 million) to $915.0 million. China's share of total Nova Scotia exports was 16.4 per cent.
Year-to-date export trade to selected Asia countries (excluding China) increased 5.8% ($20.6 million) to $373.5 million. Japan up $10.0 million to $98.4 million; South Korea up $18.5 million to $114.5 million; Hong Kong up $4.0 million to $66.8 million; India up $1.36 million to $28.0 million; Taiwan down $8.0 million to $12.6 million; Indonesia down $17.3 million to $21.1 million; Singapore up $12.1 million to $32.1 million; Other Major Asian share of total Nova Scotia exports was 6.7 per cent.
Year-to-date export trade to selected Europe countries increased 2.7 per cent ($10.3 million) to $389.3 million. United Kingdom up $3.3 million to $81.2 million; Germany up $10.8 million to $52.3 million; Italy up $0.7 million to $15.9 million; France up $14.6 million to $80.8 million; Netherlands down $14.7 million to $75.3 million; Belgium up $2.8 million to $41.5 million; Spain down $7.2 million to $42.2 million; Major European countries share of total Nova Scotia exports was 7.0 per cent
Year-to-date export trade to Other countries decreased 11.8 per cent ($56.1 million) to $420.0 million. Algeria down $1.0 million to $0.06 million; Australia down $22.0 million to $18.4 million; Brazil up $2.7 million to $14.3 million; Iraq down $0.5 million to $4.4 million; Mexico down $6.8 million to $58.4 million; Norway up $5.1 million to $18.8 million; Peru down $0.3 million to $0.7 million; Russian Federation up $0.3 million to $4.4 million; Switzerland up $4.0 million to $9.6 million; Saudi Arabia down $1.3 million to $1.1 million; Turkey down $16.6 million to $5.6 million; the Residual was down $19.8 million to $284.2 million. Other countries share of total Nova Scotia exports was 7.5 per cent.
