US TRADE BALANCE, DECEMBER 2019 AND ANNUAL

 In December 2019, US Goods and Services trade deficit widened by $5.2 billion to $48.9 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $5.1 billion to $69.7 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $0.1 billion to $20.8 billion.

 

In December 2019, US Goods and Services trade deficit widened by $5.2 billion to $48.9 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $5.1 billion to $69.7 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $0.1 billion to $20.8 billion.

Monthly exports increased by $1.6 billon to $209.6 billion. Goods exports increased by $1.3 billion to $137.7 billion, and services exports increased by $0.3 billion to $71.9 billion.

US imports were up $6.8 billion to $258.5 billion, reflecting a $6.4 billion increase to $207.5 billion in goods imports and a $0.4 billion increase to $51.1 billion in services imports.

For 2019, the US trade deficit narrowed by $10.9 billion to $616.8 billion. The goods trade deficit narrowed by $21.4 billion to $866.0 billion. The services trade surplus narrowed by $10.4 billion to $249.2 billion.

For goods, exports declined 1.3 per cent and imports declined 1.7 per cent in 2019. Among services, exports increased 2.4 per cent and imports rose 5.3 per cent in 2019. Measuring total trade (sum of exports and imports) of United States, there was a 0.2 per cent decline in 2019 following a 7.1 per cent increase in 2018.
