SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
Nova Scotia December 2019, on a seasonally adjusted basis
- month-over-month Wholesale Trade increased 2.0 per cent to $900.4 million over November 2019.
- year-over-year Wholesale Trade increased 3.6 per cent over December 2018.
Canada December 2019, on a seasonally adjusted basis
- month-over-month Wholesale Trade increased 0.9 per cent to $63.9 billion over November 2019.
- year-over-year Wholesale Trade increased 1.5 per cent over December 2018.
BY PROVINCE
On a month over month basis, seasonally adjusted Wholesale Trade was up 0.9 per cent nationally. Five provinces reported monthly increases in wholesale trade, with New Brunswick (2.2 per cent) reporting the largest gain in percentage terms. Nova Scotia reported an increase (2.0 per cent) over the previous month. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest decline (3.3 per cent) over the previous month.
On a year-over-year basis, seasonally adjusted Wholesale Trade was up 1.5 per cent nationally. Five provinces reported year-over-year increases in wholesale trade, with Prince Edward Island (22.5 per cent) reporting the largest gain in percentage terms. Nova Scotia reported an increase (3.6 per cent) over the previous year. Compared to December 2018 Saskatchewan reported the largest decline (16.7 per cent).
Canada Inventories
Quote from November release: "Wholesale inventories increased 0.4% to $91.9 billion in November after three consecutive monthly declines. Despite the increase in November, inventories were down 1.8% from their highest level in July 2019.The inventory-to-sales ratio increased from 1.43 in October to 1.45 in November, a level last seen in June 2019.”
Quote from December release: "Sales in Nova Scotia increased 6.7% to $880 million, the second gain in five months, on the strength of higher sales in the food, beverage and tobacco (+20.8%) and the machinery, equipment and supplies (+6.0%) subsectors."

BY PROVINCE
On an Annual basis, not seasonally adjusted Wholesale Trade was up 2.2 per cent nationally. Seven provinces reported year-over-year increases in wholesale trade, with Prince Edward Island (17.2 per cent) reporting the largest gain in percentage terms. Nova Scotia reported an increase (3.3 per cent) over the previous year. Compared to December 2018 Manitoba reported the largest decline (2.3 per cent).
NOVA SCOTIA BY SECTOR
In Nova Scotia (2019), Total: wholesale trade unadjusted annual sales increased 3.3 per cent ($338.2 million) over 2018.
In the following sectors wholesale trade increased
- Food, beverage with a 34% share of Wholesale Trade increased 2.6 per cent ($89.6 million).
- Motor vehicle and parts with a 18% share increased 7.7 per cent ($133.2 million).
- Building material with a 19% share increased 1.9 per cent ($37.2 million).
- Machinery, equipment with a 17% share increased 7.0 per cent ($114.8 million).
In the following sectors wholesale trade decreased
- Miscellaneous wholesalers with a 7% share decreased 5.0 per cent (-$39.2 million).
