March 02, 2020US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JANUARY 2020
In January 2020, US construction spending (seasonally adjusted annual rate) increased 1.8 per cent to $1,369 billion. This follows a revised gain of 0.2 per cent reported in December 2019, when construction spending totaled $1,345 billion. Total Residential construction increased 2.0 per cent to $562 billion. Total Non-residential construction spending increased 1.6 per cent to $807 billion.
Year-over-year, spending is 6.8 per cent above January 2019.
Private sector construction increased 1.5 per cent to $1,023 billion and is up 4.9 per cent over January 2019.

Private residential construction increased 2.1 per cent to $555 billion and is up 9.0 per cent over January 2019.

Private non-residential construction spending increased 0.8 per cent to $468 billion and increased 0.5 per cent over January 2019.
Public sector construction increased 2.6 per cent to $346 billion and is up 12.6 per cent over January 2019.

Public residential construction increased 0.5 per cent to $7.5 billion and is up 29.1 per cent over January 2019.

Public non-residential construction spending increased 2.6 per cent to $339 billion, and up 12.3 per cent over January 2019.
Year-to-date (January 2020 vs. January 2019), US construction spending is up 6.8 per cent over January 2019.

Private sector construction is up 4.9 per cent.
- Public sector construction is up 12.6 per cent .
