US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, FEBRUARY 2020

In February 2020, US construction spending (seasonally adjusted annual rate) decreased 1.3 per cent to $1,367 billion. Total Residential construction decreased 0.6 per cent to $572 billion and Non-residential construction spending decreased 1.8 per cent to $795 billion.

Year-over-year, spending is 6.0 per cent above February 2019.

Private sector construction decreased 1.2 per cent to $1,026 billion and is up 5.6 per cent over February 2019.

  • Private residential construction decreased 0.6 per cent to $564 billion and is up 11.3 per cent over February 2019.
  • Private non-residential construction spending decreased 2.0 per cent to $462 billion and decreased 0.7 per cent over February 2019.

Public sector construction decreased 1.5 per cent to $341 billion and is up 7.4 per cent over February 2019.

  • Public residential construction decreased 1.6 per cent to $7.3 billion and is up 21.7 per cent over February 2019.
  • Public non-residential construction spending decreased 1.5 per cent to $334 billion, and up 7.2 per cent over February 2019.

Year-to-date (January-February 2020 vs. January-February 2019), US construction spending is up 7.0 per cent over January-February 2019.

  • Private sector construction is up 6.1 per cent.
  • Public sector construction is up 9.9 per cent.
  • Total Residential construction is up 11.5 per cent.
  • Total Non-residential construction is up 4.0 per cent.
