April 01, 2020CAPITAL EXPENDITURES ON INFRASTRUCTURE, 2018 Statistics Canada has released new data on capital expenditures on infrastructure in Canada in 2018. Total capital investment was $93.3 billion across all types of assets, all types of ownership (public, private) and all funding sources (federal, provincial, municipal, other). This is $2,519 per capita.
The largest per capita expenditures on infrastructure assets were in Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Larger electric power infrastructure expenditures increased capital spending in Newfoundland and Labrador while transportation, electric power and other energy infrastructure spending was higher for Alberta and Saskatchewan. Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia had the lowest capital infrastructure expenditures per capita in 2018.
Transportation, electric power generation, education and water/sewer assets were the largest asset categories of expenditure across Canada.
