FARM PRODUCT PRICES, APRIL 2020

 During the COVID-19 pandemic, comparisons of year-to-date averages and sums do not show Nova Scotia’s rapidly changing economic situation.  The DailyStats will focus on year-over-year comparisons, comparing one month with the same month in the prior year.  Where possible the DailyStats will make comparisons of seasonally adjusted data from the pre-COVID-19 period (January  and February 2020) with the period during which COVID-19 measures were in place from March 2020 onwards.

 

Nova Scotia Month-over-Month Sectors

In Apr 2020 vs Mar 2020, Nova Scotia Farm Product Prices for:

  • Wheat (except durum wheat) decreased 2.7% (-$6.98 per metric tonne) to $255.67 per metric tonne
  • Cattle for slaughter decreased 3.3% (-$3.32 per hundredweight) to $96.88 per hundredweight
  • Chickens for meat increased 0.9% ($0.02 per kilogram) to $2.28 per kilogram
  • Unprocessed milk from bovine decreased 2.2% (-$17.16 per kilolitre) to $767.18 per kilolitre
  • Eggs in shell was unchanged at $1.79 per dozen

 

 

Nova Scotia Year-over-Year Sectors 

In Apr 2020 to Apr 2019, Nova Scotia Farm Product Prices (Year-over-year) for:

  • Wheat (except durum wheat) increased 5.8% ($14.13 per metric tonne) to $255.67 per metric tonne
  • Oats increased 5.5% ($12.45 per metric tonne) to $239.80 per metric tonne
  • Barley decreased 1.6% (-$3.70 per metric tonne) to $220.87 per metric tonne
  • Corn for grain increased 2.2% ($5.46 per metric tonne) to $253.99 per metric tonne
  • Cattle for slaughter decreased 1.0% (-$0.96 per hundredweight) to $96.88 per hundredweight
  • Cattle for feeding increased 4.6% ($6.65 per hundredweight) to $150.39 per hundredweight
  • Calves for feeding increased 4.1% ($6.50 per hundredweight) to $166.61 per hundredweight
  • Hogs decreased 21.0% (-$20.06 per hundredweight)) to $75.36 per hundredweight)
  • Chickens for meat increased 4.1% ($0.09 per kilogram) to $2.28 per kilogram
  • Turkeys for meat increased 0.8% ($0.02 per kilogram)) to $2.39 per kilogram)
  • Unprocessed milk from bovine increased 4.3% ($31.95 per kilolitre) to $767.18 per kilolitre
  • Eggs in shell decreased 0.6% (-$0.01 per dozen) to $1.79 per dozen
