June 05, 2020LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - MAY 2020 In Nova Scotia May 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force increased 4.0 per cent (17,900) from April 2020 to 467,500 and decreased 6.9 per cent (34,800) over May 2019
- Employment increased 2.2 per cent (8,600) from April 2020 to 404,200 and decreased 13.8 per cent (64,600) over May 2019
- Unemployment increased 17.4 per cent (9,400) from April 2020 to 63,400 and increased 89.3 per cent (29,900) over May 2019
- Unemployment Rate increased 1.6 percentage points from April 2020 to 13.6 per cent.
In Canada May 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force increased 2.6 per cent (490,500) from April 2020 to 19,093,700 and decreased 5.2 per cent (1,049,000) over May 2019
- Employment increased 1.8 per cent (289,600) from April 2020 to 16,474,500 and decreased 13.5 per cent (2,575,900) over May 2019
- Unemployment increased 8.3 per cent (200,900) from April 2020 to 2,619,200 and increased 139.8 per cent (1,526,900) over May 2019
- Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points from April 2020 to 13.7 per cent.
In Halifax May 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force decreased 2.7 per cent (6,600) from April 2020 to 241,600 and decreased 4.5 per cent (11,500) over May 2019
- Employment decreased 4.3 per cent (9,700) from April 2020 to 216,300 and decreased 9.7 per cent (23,300) over May 2019
- Unemployment increased 14.0 per cent (3,100) from April 2020 to 25,300 and increased 87.4 per cent (11,800) over May 2019
- Unemployment Rate increased 1.6 percentage points from April 2020 to 10.5 per cent
