LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - JUNE 2020

In Nova Scotia June 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 6.5 per cent (30,200) from May 2020 to 497,700 and decreased 0.8 per cent  (4,200) over June 2019
  • Employment increased 7.1 per cent (28,900) from May 2020 to 433,100 and decreased 7.5 per cent (35,000) over June 2019
  • Unemployment increased 1.9 per cent (1,200) from May 2020 to 64,600 and increased 91.1 per cent (30,800) over June 2019
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.6 percentage points from May 2020 to 13.0 per cent.

In Canada June 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 4.1 per cent (786,300) from May 2020 to 19,880,000 and decreased 1.5 per cent (294,000) over June 2019
  • Employment increased 5.8 per cent (952,900) from May 2020 to 17,427,400 and decreased 8.5 per cent (1,623,800) over June 2019
  • Unemployment decreased 6.4 per cent (166,600) from May 2020 to 2,452,600 and increased 118.4 per cent (1,329,700) over June 2019
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.4 percentage points from May 2020 to 12.3 per cent.

In Halifax June 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 1.7 per cent (4,200) from May 2020 to 245,800 and decreased 4.4 per cent (11,300) over June 2019
  • Employment increased 0.1 per cent (300) from May 2020 to 216,600 and decreased 11.0 per cent (26,800) over June 2019
  • Unemployment increased 15.4 per cent (3,900) from May 2020 to 29,200 and increased 113.1 per cent (15,500) over June 2019
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.4 percentage points from May 2020 to 11.9 per cent
