July 14, 2020US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JUNE 2020 The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.6 per cent in June (seasonally adjusted monthly growth), following a 0.1 per cent decline in May 2020. The sharp increase in gasoline prices (+12.3%) in June accounted for over half of the monthly increase in the all items index in June.
The index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2 per cent in June, posting the first monthly increase since February 2020. The indexes for motor vehicle insurance, apparel, shelter, and medical care increased in June, while the indexes for used cars and trucks, recreation, and communication all declined.
Year-over-year (June 2020 compared to June 2019) consumer prices were up 0.6 per cent (not seasonally adjusted). For the previous 12 months, the index for all-items less food and energy increased 1.2 per cent. The food index was up 4.5 per cent. The energy index declined 12.6 per cent.
