August 04, 2020US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JUNE 2020 COVID-19 Impact: Due to recent events surrounding COVID-19, many governments and businesses are operating on a limited capacity or have ceased operations completely. The Census Bureau has monitored response and data quality and determined estimates in this release meet publication standards.
US construction spending (seasonally adjusted annual rate) decreased 0.7 per cent from the previous month to $1,355 billion. Year-over-year, US construction spending is 0.1 per cent above the June 2019 estimate of $1,354 billion.
Total residential construction spending declined 1.4 per cent to $542 billion. Total non-residential construction spending was down 0.2 per cent to $813 billion.
Private sector construction decreased 0.7 per cent to $1,002 billion and is down 1.9 per cent over June 2019.
- Private residential construction decreased 1.5 per cent to $534 billion and is down 0.8 per cent over June 2019.
- Private non-residential construction spending increased 0.2 per cent to $468 billion and decreased 3.2 per cent over June 2019.
Public sector construction decreased 0.7 per cent to $353 billion and is up 6.2 per cent over June 2019.
- Public residential construction increased 2.7 per cent to $8.1 billion and is up 34.1 per cent over June 2019.
- Public non-residential construction spending decreased 0.8 per cent to $345 billion, and is up 5.7 per cent over June 2019.
