October 09, 2020LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - SEPTEMBER 2020 In Nova Scotia September 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force remains unchanged from August 2020 at 494,500 and decreased 1.7 per cent (8,700) over September 2019
- Employment increased 2.7 per cent (12,000) from August 2020 to 455,700 and decreased 2.4 per cent (-11,100) over September 2019
- Unemployment decreased 23.4 per cent (-11,900) from August 2020 to 38,900 and increased 6.9 per cent (2,500) over September 2019
- Unemployment Rate decreased 2.4 percentage points from August 2020 to 7.9 per cent.
In Canada September 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force increased 0.8 per cent (163,900) from August 2020 to 20,302,500 and increased 0.2 per cent (39,300) over September 2019
- Employment increased 2.1 per cent (378,200) from August 2020 to 18,469,900 and decreased 3.6 per cent (-685,000) over September 2019
- Unemployment decreased 10.5 per cent (-214,300) from August 2020 to 1,832,600 and increased 65.3 per cent (724,200) over September 2019
- Unemployment Rate decreased 1.2 percentage points from August 2020 to 9.0 per cent.
In Halifax September 2020, (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):
- Labour force decreased 0.4 per cent (-1,000) from August 2020 to 258,600 and increased 0.6 per cent (1,500) over September 2019
- Employment increased 1.5 per cent (3,400) from August 2020 to 236,900 and decreased 2.2 per cent (-5,300) over September 2019
- Unemployment decreased 17.2 per cent (-4,500) from August 2020 to 21,600 and increased 44.0 per cent (6,600) over September 2019
- Unemployment Rate decreased 1.7 percentage points from August 2020 to 8.4 per cent

"In Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia reported the largest employment gain in September, up 12,000 (+2.7%), continuing the upward trend that began five months earlier. Employment in Nova Scotia was within 3.2% of its February level and the unemployment rate fell 2.4 percentage points to 7.9%."
