LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - OCTOBER 2020

In Nova Scotia October 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 1.6 per cent (7,900) from September 2020 to 502,400 and decreased 1.2 per cent  (5,900) over October 2019
  • Employment increased 0.6 per cent (2,800) from September 2020 to 458,500 and decreased 1.8 per cent (8,600) over October 2019
  • Unemployment increased 12.6 per cent (4,900) from September 2020 to 43,800 and increased 6.6 per cent (2,700) over October 2019
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.8 percentage points from September 2020 to 8.7 per cent.

 In Canada October 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.3 per cent (67,800) from September 2020 to 20,370,300 and increased 0.4 per cent (89,200) over October 2019
  • Employment increased 0.5 per cent (83,600) from September 2020 to 18,553,500 and decreased 3.1 per cent (598,200) over October 2019
  • Unemployment decreased 0.9 per cent (15,800) from September 2020 to 1,816,800 and increased 60.9 per cent (687,400) over October 2019
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points from September 2020 to 8.9 per cent.

In Halifax October 2020,  (seasonally adjusted, month-over-month and year-over-year):

  • Labour force increased 0.7 per cent (1,700) from September 2020 to 260,300 and increased 1.0 per cent (2,500) over October 2019
  • Employment increased 1.4 per cent (3,400) from September 2020 to 240,300 and decreased 0.7 per cent (1,800) over October 2019
  • Unemployment decreased 7.4 per cent (1,600) from September 2020 to 20,000 and increased 27.4 per cent (4,300) over October 2019
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.7 percentage points from September 2020 to 7.7 per cent.
