UK RETAIL SALES, OCTOBER 2020

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales increased in October 2020. This is the sixth consecutive monthly increase when compared with the record falls experienced in March and April. In October 2020, retail sales volumes were 6.7% above February 2020 levels. Retail sales values were 5.2% higher than in February 2020.                                                                                                           

  • Month-over-month retail sales value increased 1.4% while the retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) increased 1.2% over September 2020.
  • Year-over-year retail sales value increased 4.8% and retail sales volume increased 5.8% over October 2019. 

Internet sales

  • Online retail sales increased by 4.7% in October when compared with September 2020.
  • In October 2020, online sales share of all retail sales increased to 28.5% from 27.6% in September 2020. Online sales share of all retail sales increased from 20.1% in February 2020 to 28.5% in October 2020.
