US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, NOVEMBER 2020

The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.2% in November after being stable in October 2020. The food index decreased 0.1%, with the food at home index decreasing by 0.3% and a smaller 0.1% increase in the food away from home index. The energy index increased 0.4% in November as an increase in the index for natural gas and electricity offsetting the decline in gasoline index.

In November 2020, the index for all items less food and energy increased 0.2%. The index for shelter increased 0.1%. The indexes for lodging away from home, household furnishings and operations, recreation, apparel, airline fares, and motor vehicle insurance increased while the indexes for used cars and trucks, medical care, and new vehicles declined.

Year-over-year (November 2020 compared to November 2019) consumer prices increased 1.2% (not seasonally adjusted). The index for all-items less food and energy increased 1.6%. The food index increased 3.7% while the energy index declined 9.4%.
