NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, NOVEMBER 2020

Year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2020 vs Jan-Nov 2019, unadjusted)

In the first 11 months of 2020, Nova Scotia new motor vehicle unit sales decreased 24.3%. The 36,766 new motor vehicles sold in Jan-Nov 2020 represent a sales value of $1,460.8 million, down 21.8% over Jan-Nov 2019.

In Canada new motor vehicles unit sales decreased 21.9%.. The 1,443,535 new motor vehicles sold in Jan-Nov 2020 represent a sales value of $64.5 billion, down 19.1% over Jan-Nov 2019.

Unit sales were down in all provinces with the largest declines in Nova Scotia and Ontario and the smallest declines in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.

Year-over-year (Nov 2020 vs Nov 2019, unadjusted)

In Nova Scotia Nov 2020, unit sales decreased 11.1%. National unit sales decreased 9.9%, Only one province recorded an increase (Newfoundland and Labrador 5.1%). All other provinces recorded declines.

 

 

Average Prices (Jan-Nov 2020 vs Jan-Nov 2019)

Nova Scotia's average unit prices for new motor vehicles increased by 3.3% between Jan-Nov19 and Jan-Nov20, close to the pace in national unit prices.  Stronger gains were reported in Manitoba and Alberta, while the weaker growth was observed in Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island.  Alberta continues to report the highest average unit price for new motor vehicle sales ($49,700) while Prince Edward Island reported the lowest average unit prices ($37,263).

In Nova Scotia, average unit prices for all motor vehicles was $40,392, Trucks/SUV averaged $43,234 and Passenger cars averaged $29,330.

 

Passenger Cars and Trucks/SUVs (Jan-Nov 2020 vs Jan-Nov 2019)

In the first 11 months of 2020, Nova Scotia unit sales of truck/SUV (77.8% of unit sales) decreased 18.4%. Unit sales of passenger car decreased 39.5%. Sales value of truck/SUV (83.9% of sales value) decreased 17.5%. Sales value of passenger car decreased 38.2%.

 

 

Country of Manufacture (Jan-Nov 2020 vs Jan-Nov 2019)

In the first 11 months of 2020, Nova Scotia unit sales of North American manufactured new motor vehicles (73.5% of unit sales) decreased 24.3% . Unit sales of overseas manufactures decreased 24.2%

Nova Scotia sales value of North American manufactured new motor vehicles (76.6% of sales value) decreased 21.3%. Sales value of overseas manufactures decreased 23.1%
