US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, DECEMBER 2020 & ANNUAL

Month over month (Dec 2020 vs Nov 2020, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

  • US construction spending increased 1.0% to $1,490 billion
  • Total Residential construction increased 3.1% to $700 billion
  • Total Non-residential construction spending decreased 0.8% to $790 billion
  • Private sector construction increased 1.2% to $1,138 billion
    • Private residential construction increased 3.1% to $691 billion
    • Private non-residential construction spending decreased 1.7% to $447 billion
  • Public sector construction increased 0.5% to $353 billion
    • Public residential construction increased 0.8% to $9.2 billion
    • Public non-residential construction spending increased 0.5% to $344 billion

 

Year over year (Dec 2020 vs Dec 2019)

  • US Construction spending was up 5.7%
  • Private sector construction spending was up 6.5%
    • Private residential construction spending was up 20.7%
    • Private non-residential construction spending was down 9.8%
  • Public sector construction spending was up 3.0%
    • Public residential construction spending was up 22.7%
    • Public non-residential construction spending was up 2.5%

 

Annual 2020

  • US construction spending was up 4.6% in 2020 to $17.1 trillion
  • Private sector construction was up 4.4% to $13.0 trillion
  • Public sector construction was up 5.1% to $4.2 trillion
  • Total Residential construction was up 11.3% to $7.4 trillion
  • Total Non-residential construction was unchanged at $9.8 trillion
