Japan’s CPI inflation (all items, year-over-year) declined 0.6% in January 2021. Energy inflation declined 8.6% and food inflation edged down 0.1% in January 2021.
Japan's underlying inflation (all items excluding fresh food and energy) edged up 0.1%, the first month of year-over-year increase after five months of negative inflation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts on prices have been sharply negative in Canada as a large drop in energy (especially petroleum) prices caused a sharp deceleration in year-over-year inflation at both national and provincial levels. Energy prices and Japanese inflation are lower in Japan in recent months as compare to Canada and Nova Scotia.
