EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, JANUARY 2021

The unemployment rate in the Euro Area was 8.1% in January 2021, unchanged from December 2020.  The unemployment rate in the Euro Area was 7.4% in January 2020.

For the broader European Union (27 countries), the unemployment rate was at 7.3% in January 2021, unchanged from December 2020. The European Union's unemployment rate was 6.6% in January 2020 (for the 27 current members of the EU).  

Among major European economies, the unemployment rate was highest in Greece (16.2% in Nov 2020) and Spain (16.0%). Unemployment rates were lowest in Poland (3.1%) and Czechia (3.2%).
