Nova Scotia's international merchandise exports decreased 6.7% (-$30.8 million) to $428.8 million in January 2021.
The largest decrease was in Farm, Fishing, Intermediate Food Products (-$43.2 million, -30.9%), followed by Transportation Equipment (-$4.4 million, -52.4%).
The largest increases were in Motor vehicles/Parts (+$8.4 million, +8.7%) and Forestry/Building/Packaging Materials (+$8.4 million, +18.5%).

Nova Scotia reported a 6.7% loss in merchandise trade exports in January 2021 compared to January 2020. Canada reported a 1.0% loss in merchandise trade exports. The largest decline was reported for Newfoundland and Labrador at -12.6%, while British Columbia had the largest gain at 16.6%.

Nova Scotia's international merchandise exports were down 6.7% in January, following a 1.3% decline in December 2020 and 3.6% drop in November 2020.
Canada's international merchandise exports were down 1.0% in January, following a 4.9% decline in December 2020 and 2.7% drop in November 2020.

The decline in Nova Scotia’s merchandise exports was largely due to reduced trade with China, with exports to China down $72.3 million (-61.2%) compared to Jan 2020.
By destination, the largest gains in exports were reported for the United States (+$15.4 million, +5.7%), South Korea (+$6.4 million, +75.9%) and Spain (+$3.0 million, +367.4%).
