LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - FEBRUARY 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Jan 2021 vs Dec 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 0.3% (+1,400) to 506,200
• Employment increased 0.5% (+2,500) to 465,200
• Unemployment decreased 2.6% (-1,100) to 41,000
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 8.1%.

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 0.1% (+25,200) to 20,196,200
• Employment increased 1.4% (+259,200) to 18,531,200
• Unemployment decreased 12.3% (-233,900) to 1,665,100
• Unemployment Rate decreased 1.2 percentage points to 8.2%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 1.2% (+3,000) to 261,200
• Employment increased 0.6% (+1,400) to 240,100
• Unemployment increased 8.8% (+1,700) to 21,100
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points to 8.1%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Feb 2021 vs Feb 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force decreased 0.3% (-1,400)
• Employment decreased 0.4% (-1,800)
• Unemployment increased 1.0% (+400)
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points

In Canada,

• Labour force decreased 0.4% (-79,800)
• Employment decreased 3.1% (-599,100)
• Unemployment increased 45.3% (+519,400)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.5 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 3.7% (+9,400)
• Employment increased 2.2% (+5,100)
• Unemployment increased 25.6% (+4,300)
• Unemployment Rate increased 1.4 percentage points
