UK RETAIL SALES, FEBRUARY 2021

The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales partially recovered in February 2021, following a decline in January 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Retail sales volumes were 3.7% below February 2020 levels. Retail sales values were 4.4% lower than in February 2020.                                                                                                           

  • Month-over-month retail sales value increased 2.2% while the retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) increased 2.1% over January 2021.
  • Year-over-year retail sales value decreased 4.4% and retail sales volume decreased 3.7% over February 2020. 

Internet sales

  • Online retail sales increased by 4.6% in February 2021 when compared with January 2021.
  • In February 2021, online sales share of all retail sales increased to 36.1% from 35.2% in January 2021. Online sales share of all retail sales increased from 20.0% in February 2020 to 36.1% in February 2021.
