NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, FEBRUARY 2021

Year-to-date (Jan-Feb 2021 vs Jan-Feb 2020, unadjusted)

In the first 2 months of 2021, Nova Scotia new motor vehicle unit sales increased 4.3%. The 5,817 new motor vehicles sold represent a sales value of $237.1 million, up 8.1%.

In Canada new motor vehicles unit sales decreased 10.3%. The 215,017 new motor vehicles sold in Jan-Feb 2021 represent a sales value of $10.1 billion, down 5.8% over Jan-Feb 2020.

Unit sales were down in five provinces with the largest declines in Ontario and Quebec. Unit sales increased in the Atlantic provinces and British Columbia.

Sales values were down in four provinces with the largest declines in Ontario and Quebec. Sales values  increased in Prince Edward Island, British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Year-over-year (Feb 2021 vs Feb 2020, unadjusted)

In Nova Scotia Feb 2021, unit sales increased 4.8% and national unit sales decreased 6.5%. The largest unit sales  declines were in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador.

In Nova Scotia sales values increased 11.4% and National sales values decreased 1.0%. Sales values were lower in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

 

Average Prices (Jan-Feb 2021 vs Jan-Feb 2020)

In Nova Scotia, the new motor vehicles average price increased 3.7%. National new motor vehicle average price increased 5.0%.

Stronger gains were reported in Manitoba, Prince Edward Island and Ontario, while the weaker growth was observed in Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick. Alberta continues to report the highest average unit price for new motor vehicle sales ($50,559) and Prince Edward Island reported the lowest average unit prices ($41,561).

 

 

 

 

In Nova Scotia, average unit prices for all motor vehicles was $40,767. Trucks/SUV averaged $42,980 and  passenger cars averaged $30,170.

 

Passenger Cars and Trucks/SUVs (Jan-Feb 2021 vs Jan-Feb 2020)

In the first two months of 2021, Nova Scotia unit sales of truck/SUV (82.7% of unit sales) increased 11.1%. Unit sales of passenger cars decreased 19.2%. Sales value of truck/SUV (87.2% of sales value) increased 12.4%. Sales value of passenger cars decreased 14.2%.

 

Country of Manufacture (Jan-Feb 2021 vs Jan-Feb 2020)

In the first two months of 2021, Nova Scotia unit sales of North American manufactured new motor vehicles (70.6% of unit sales) decreased 1.7%. Unit sales of overseas manufactures increased 22.2%.

Nova Scotia sales value of North American manufactured new motor vehicles (74.9% of sales value) increased 4.4%. Sales value of overseas manufactures increased 20.8%.
