NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, MARCH 2021

Month-over-month (Feb 2021 vs Mar 2021)

According to the new data released by Statistics Canada today, the national price of new housing increased 1.1%, following the largest monthly increase on record in last month. In Nova Scotia the price of new housing increased 1.0%. New home prices exhibited a strong change in (17 out of 27) census metropolitan areas (CMAs) surveyed. The leading province was Prince Edward Island at 3.4% and the least province was Alberta at 0.7%.

Year-over-year (Mar 2021 vs Mar 2020)

In Nova Scotia, new housing prices increased 9.6%. National new housing prices increased 7.9%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Mar 2021 vs Jan-Mar 2020)

Nova Scotia's new housing prices were up 8.5%. National housing prices were up 6.8%. Prince Edward Island saw the fastest growth (+9.2%) and Saskatchewan (+1.3%) reported the smallest increase.

Census Metropolitan Areas

Year-over-year (Mar 2021 vs Mar 2020)

New house price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Ottawa (+17.3%) and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+17.2%). The slowest growth was in Sherbrooke (+0.1%). Nova Scotia's CMA, Halifax, reported an 9.6% increase.

Year-to-date (Jan-Mar 2021 vs Jan-Mar 2020)

New house price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Ottawa (+15.9%) and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+15.4%). The slowest growth was in Sherbrooke (+0.1%) and no change in Regina. Nova Scotia's CMA, Halifax, reported a 8.5% increase.
