Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 1.3% to $125.3 million.
Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased 6.7% to $4.4 billion. Eight provinces reported monthly increases in food services and drinking places, with Alberta (15.1%) reporting the largest gain, and Newfoundland and Labrador (-18.5%) reporting the largest decline in percentage terms.
Year-over-Year (Feb 2021 vs Feb 2020, seasonally adjusted)
Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts decreased 14.1%.
Canada's food services and drinking places receipts decreased 31.8%. None of the provinces reported year-over-year increases in food services and drinking place receipts, with Prince Edward Island (-9.6%) reporting the smallest decline and Quebec (-39.1%) reporting the largest decline in percentage terms.

Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts decreased 14.3% (-$41.4 million).
Canada's food services and drinking places receipts decreased 33.9% (-$4.4billion). None of the provinces reported year-to-date increases in food services and drinking place receipts, with Newfoundland and Labrador (-8.2%) reporting the smallest decline and Quebec (-41.9%) reporting the largest decline in percentage terms.
NOVA SCOTIA SECTORS
Nova Scotia Year-to-date Sales by Establishment Type (Jan-Feb 2021 vs Jan-Feb 2020, unadjusted for seasonality)
Compared with Jan-Feb 2020, the reductions in food service and drinking place receipts have been most pronounced for Nova Scotia's full-service restaurants (-$23.7 million). In year-to-date percentage terms, the declines have been more severe for special good services (-56.4%) and drinking places (-54.5%) with a smaller increase for limited service eating places (+1.9%).
Looking at different sectors:
- Limited-service eating places, accounting for increased 1.9% ($2.4 million) to $63.0 million.
- Full-service restaurants decreased 26.2% (-$23.7 million) to $34.0 million.
- Special food services decreased 56.4% (-$11.4 million) to $4.8 million.
- Drinking places -alcoholic beverages decreased 54.5% (-$3.5 million) to $1.6 million.
LONG-RUN TREND
Nova Scotia's Food services and drinking places month over month sales declined sharply in March 2020 (-32.5%) and April 2020 (-38.7%). Recovery began with rapid gains in 2021 May 2020 (+31.8%) and June 2020 (+34.7%). Nova Scotia experienced a short reversal in November (-1.3%) and December (15,1%), and recovered in January 2021 (+15.7%) and February 2021 (+1.3%). Compared to February 2020 Food services and drinking places sales are -14.1% below their pre-pandemic levels.
After five consecutive monthly gains. National food services and drinking places sales declined 7.7% to $4.7 billion in October 2020. This decline was mostly due to the second wave of COVID-19 restrictions introduced in several provinces. By February 2021 recovery had begun. National food services and drinking places sales are still 31.8% below their pre-pandemic levels. All provinces report food services and drinking places remain between -9.6% and -39.1% below February 2020 levels.
