May 14, 2021US RETAIL SALES, APRIL 2021 Month over month (April 2021, seasonally adjusted)
The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales remained stable at around $619.9 billion. Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 0.3% ($1.8 billion). Food service and drinking place month-over-month receipts increased 3.0% ($1.9 billion)

Compared to April 2020, US retail trade and food services increased 51.2% ($210.0 billion). Retail trade increased 46.1% ($175.0 billion), while food services and drinking places sales increased 116.8% ($34.9 billion).
Compared to February 2020, US retail trade and food services and drinking places increased 17.9%, as retail trade increased 20.8% and food services and drinking places declined 2.0%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Apr 2021 vs Jan-Apr 2020, seasonally adjusted)
The United States retail trade and food services increased 22.3% ($433.1 billion) to $2,376.1 billion. Retail trade increased 23.2% ($402.0 billion). Food services and drinking places sales increased 14.9% ($31.1 billion). Sales were up in 13 of 13 retail categories, the fastest gains (in percentage terms) being reported in sporting & recreation (+57.8%). The slowest gains (in percentage terms) were seen in food & beverage (+2.0%).
