June 18, 2021UK RETAIL SALES, MAY 2021 The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales declined in May 2021 following a sharp increase in April, when COVID-19 restrictions had eased in the UK. Retail sales volume and value were both 9.1% above February 2020 levels.
- Month-over-month (May 2021 vs Apr 2021) retail sales value decreased 0.8% while the retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) declined 1.4%.
- Year-over-year (May 2021 vs May 2021) retail sales value increased 27.0% and retail sales volume increased 24.6%.
- Year-to-date (Jan-May 2021 vs Jan-May 2020) retail sales value and volume both increased 11.3%.
Internet sales
- Online retail sales decreased by 5.7% in May 2021 when compared with April 2021.
- In May 2021, online sales share of all retail sales decreased to 28.5% from 29.8% in March 2021. Online sales share of all retail sales increased from 19.9% in February 2020.
