US TRADE BALANCE, MAY 2021

Month over month (May-21 vs Apr-21)

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today that the month-over-month net trade deficit widened by $2.2 billion to $71.2 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $2.3 billions to $89.2 billion, and the services trade surplus widened by $0.1 billion to $17.9 billion.

                                                                                  

Exports of goods increased 0.3% ($0.4 billion) to $145.5 billion and exports of services increased 1.5% ($0.9 billion) to $60.5 billion.

Imports of goods increased 1.2% ($2.7 billion) to $234.7 billion, and imports of services increased 1.8% ($0.7 billion) to $42.6 billion.

 

 

Year over year (May 2021 vs May 2020)

The United States, net trade deficit widened by $16.3 billion. The net trade goods deficit widened by $12.5 billions, and the net trade services surplus narrowed by $3.8 billion.

Total exports increased 41.0% ($59.9 billion); exports of goods increased 59.8% ($54.5 billion), and exports of services increased 9.9% ($5.4 billion).

Total imports increased 37.9% ($76.2 billion); imports of goods increased 40.0% ($67.0 billion), and imports of services increased 27.7% ($9.2 billion).
