LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - JULY 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Jul 2021 vs Jun 2021, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 0.1% (500) to 503,300
• Employment increased 0.8% (3,700) to 461,200
• Unemployment decreased 7.1% (3,200) to 42,100
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.6 percentage points to 8.4%.

In Canada, 

• Labour force increased 0.1% (23,800) to 20,405,300
• Employment increased 0.5% (94,000) to 18,883,900
• Unemployment decreased 4.4% (70,200) to 1,521,400
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points to 7.5%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average)* 

• Labour force decreased 0.7% (1,700) to 253,800
• Employment decreased 0.5% (1,200) to 231,700
• Unemployment decreased 2.2% (500) to 22,100
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 8.7%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Jul 2021 vs Jul 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 3.9% (18,800)
• Employment increased 6.8% (29,200)
• Unemployment decreased 19.8% (10,400)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.4 percentage points

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 2.1% (420,000)
• Employment increased 6.1% (1,081,300)
• Unemployment decreased 30.3% (661,400)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 3.4 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)*

• Labour force decreased 3.3% (8,200)
• Employment increased 6.0% (13,100)
• Unemployment decreased 17.8% (4,800)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.3 percentage points
