US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, JULY 2021

Month over month (July 2021 vs June 2021, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.3% month-over-month from the revised June estimate of $1,563.4 billion to $1,568.8 billion in July. Total residential construction increased 0.5% to $782 billion while total non-residential construction spending was up 0.1% to $787 billion.

Private sector construction increased 0.3% to $1,231 billion. Public sector construction increased 0.7% to $338 billion.

Year over year (July 2021 vs July 2020)

US Construction spending was up 9.0%. Total residential construction was up 26.5% while total non-residential construction was down 4.2%. Private sector construction spending was up 13.6%. Public sector construction spending was down 5.1%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Jul 2021 vs Jan-Jul 2020)

In the first seven months of 2021, US construction spending was up 6.1% from the same period last year. Total residential construction was up 24.9%. Total non-residential construction was down 7.4%. Private sector construction was up 10.3%. Public sector construction was down 6.6%.
