EU AND EURO AREA RETAIL TRADE, JULY 2021

Month-over-month (Jul 2021 vs Jun 2021, seasonally adjusted turnouver value)

In the European Union, retail sales were down 1.1%. In the Euro Area, retail sales declined 1.7%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Jul 2021 vs Jan-Jul 2020, seasonally adjusted turnouver value)

In the European Union, retail sales were up 7.8%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 7.5%. 

Where data is available, the strongest growth in year-to-date retail sales occurred in Romania and Lithuania. The weakest growth was reported in Slovakia and Germany.

Retail sales were up for most categories across Europe. Food, beverage and tobacca sales reported slower growth. Mail and internet sales were up 24.8% in the Euro Area, and up 24.5% in the European Union.
