September 17, 2021UK RETAIL SALES, AUGUST 2021 The UK Office for National Statistics reports that UK retail sales decreased in August 2021. Compared to February 2020, retail sales volume was 4.6% higher and value was 6.8% higher in August 2021.
- Month-over-month (August 2021 vs July 2021) retail sales value decreased 0.3% and retail sales volume (adjusted for price changes) was down 0.9%.
- Year-over-year (August 2021 vs August 2020) retail sales value increased 3.6% and retail sales volume was unchanged.
- Year-to-date (Jan-Aug 2021 vs Jan-Aug 2020) retail sales value was up 9.5% and volume increased 8.2%.
Internet sales
- Online retail sales increased by 1.5% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.
- In August 2021, online sales share of all retail sales increased to 27.7% from 27.1% in July 2021. Online sales share of all retail sales remains higher than the 19.7% in February 2020.
