US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2021

The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 5.4% year-over-year in September. This was just above the 5.3% increase reported in August.

The seasonally adjusted monthly increase was 0.4% reflecting increases from food and shelter. The energy index was up 1.3% from the previous month, mainly driven by a 1.2% increase in gasoline prices. The food index increased 0.9% month-over-month while the shelter index rose 0.4%. 

The index for all items less food and energy was up 4.0% from September 2020. Over the past 12 months, the energy index was up 24.8% and the food index increased 4.6%.

Canada and Nova Scotia September 2021 CPI figures will be released on October 20, 2021.
