CANADA'S BALANCE OF INTERNATIONAL PAYMENTS 2021Q3

 

Current Account - All Countries (Seasonally adjusted, 2021Q3 vs 2021Q2)

In Canada, the current account receipts income increased $11.5 billion to $234.2 billion while payments income increased a similar $11.5 billion to $232.8 billion. The resulting current account income surplus was essentially unchanged at $1.4 billion.

Exports of goods & services receipts income increased $8.9 billion to $193.1 billion while imports goods & services payments income increased $7.2 billion to $191.3 billion. The resulting goods & services income surplus widened by $1.6 billion to $1.8 billion.

Primary income receipts income increased $1.4 billion to $36.8 billion while primary income payments increased $4.5 billion to $37.4 billion. The resulting primary income balance went from a surplus ($2.5 billion) to a $0.6 billion deficit.

Secondary income receipts income increased $1.2 billion to $4.3 billion while secondary income payments income decreased $0.3 billion to $4.1 billion. The resulting secondary income balance went from a deficit (-$1.2 billion) to a $0.2 billion surplus.

BALANCE OF PAYMENTS WITH THE UNITED STATES (Unadjusted, 2021Q3 vs. 2021 Q2)

In Canada, the current account with the United States, receipts trade increased 2.8% (+$4.3 billion) to $158.1 billion while payments increased 3.2% (+$4.3 billion) to $136.0 billion. Current account trade surplus widened by 0.3% (+$0.07 billion) to $22.0 billion.

Exports of goods and services trade increased 3.8% (+$5.0 billion) to $138.5 billion while imports of goods and services trade increased 0.9% (+$1.1 billion) to $114.5 billion. Goods and services trade surplus widened by 19.9% (+$4.0 billion) to $24.0 billion.
