CANADA TRADE BALANCE, OCTOBER 2021

GOODS

In October 2021, Canada’s international trade surplus in goods widened to $2,092.6 million after a surplus of $1,415.0 million in September. Canada's international exports of goods grew 6.4% to $56,183.1 million and imports of goods rose 5.3% to $54,090.5 million. Higher trade in motor vehicles and parts and energy products were the largest contributors to the increased trade this month.                                                                                                                                   

Canada’s goods trade surplus with the United States was $8,280.0 million in October, down from a $8,422.7 million surplus in the previous month. Canada exported $42,226.8 million in goods to the US and imported $33,946.9 million in goods from the US. Compared to September 2021, Canada's exports to the US were up 6.8% while imports from the US rose by 9.1%.  

 

Canada's deficit in goods trade with the EU narrowed to $2,145.1 million in October 2021.  Compared to September 2021, Canada's exports to the EU fell 2.2% to $2,650.6 million and imports from the EU were down 2.2% to $4,795.7 million.

 

Canada reported a deficit of $2,320.5 million in goods trade with China for October 2021.  Canada's exports of goods to China rose to $2,793.3 million (+8.6%) in October.  Canada's goods imports from China were up 8.7% to $5,113.8 million.

 

SERVICES

Canada’s services trade recorded a deficit of $562.0 million in October 2021, following a deficit of $624.0 million in September. Services imports were up 1.6 % from September to October, rising to $11,985.0 million.  Canada's services exports were up 2.3% to $11,423.0 million in October.

GOODS AND SERVICES

Canada's overall trade surplus in goods and services widened from $791.0 million in September to $1,530.6 million in October.  Exports of goods and services were up 5.7% to $67,606.1 million while imports of goods and services were up 4.6% to $66,075.5 million.
