LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Dec 2021 vs. Nov 2021, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force decreased 0.3% (1,600) to 510,500
• Employment remains virtually unchanged (100) to 470,500
• Unemployment decreased 3.6% (1,500) to 40,100
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 7.9%.

In Canada, 

• Labour force increased 0.1% (23,200) to 20,583,200
• Employment increased 0.3% (54,700) to 19,370,800
• Unemployment decreased 2.5% (31,500) to 1,212,300
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.9%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

• Labour force increased 0.1% (300) to 258,200
• Employment increased 0.2% (600) to 242,100
• Unemployment decreased 1.8% (300) to 16,100
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 6.2%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Dec 2021 vs. Dec 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 2.4%  (11,800)
• Employment increased 3.4% (15,600)
• Unemployment decreased 8.4% (3,700)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.9 percentage points

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 1.6% (324,400)
• Employment increased 4.8% (886,000)
• Unemployment decreased 31.7% (561,600)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.9 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 1.1% (2,800)
• Employment increased 2.4% (5,600)
• Unemployment decreased 15.3% (2,900)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 1.2 percentage points

 

ANNUAL AVERAGE (2021 vs. 2020)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 3.8% (18,700)
• Employment increased 5.4% (23,800) 
• Unemployment decreased -10.7% (5,100) 
• Unemployment Rate decreased 1.4 percentage points to 8.4%

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 2.5% (488,700) 
• Employment increased 4.8% (866,200) 
• Unemployment decreased 19.9% (377,500) 
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.0 percentage points to 7.5%

In Halifax,

• Labour force increased 3.9% (9,600) 
• Employment increased 5.2% (11,900) 
• Unemployment decreased 10.6% (-2,300) 
• Unemployment Rate decreased 1.2 percentage points to 7.5%
