EU AND EURO AREA GDP, Q4 2021 [PRELIMINARY FLASH]

In the preliminary flash GDP estimate for Q4 2021, Eurostat estimates the seasonally adjusted annualized rate growth rate for European Union (EU27) was 1.7% and 1.2% for the Euro Area (EA19). Growth slowed from the previous quarter which recorded growth of 8.9% in the EU27 and 9.4% in the EA19.

The European Union economy was 0.4% larger compared to the pre-pandemic period Q4 2019, while the Euro Area economy had just reached pre-pandemic levels in Q4 2021. 

In 2021, both the EU27 and EA19 grew 5.2%, according to the preliminary estimates.
